Thomas Francis Devlin III May 27, 1947-November 4, 2020 Obituary
On Wednesday, November 4, 2020, Thomas Francis Devlin, III, better known by his friends and family as Tom, passed away at the age of 73. Tom was born in Langhorne, Pennsylvania to Mary Irene and Frank Devlin and spent most of his childhood in Newtown, Pennsylvania. At 18 years old, Tom joined the Marines and soon after was deployed to Vietnam. Serving in the Marine Corps from 1966-1970, he earned a Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medals, a Bronze Star and other awards. Tom also served in the Marine Corps Reserve and the Air National Guard where he served as a medic.
Tom had a good sense of humor and was fun loving. He liked to travel and particularly enjoyed touring historical sites. He returned to Vietnam and took a guided trip to D-Day sites. He enjoyed the Jersey shore and Hawaii. Recently, Tom explored family origins in a trip to Ireland with his cousins and sister.
Tom lived in Silver Spring, MD for more than 30 years. He was devoted to his church, St. Michael the Archangel. Tom was a valued member of the Knights of Columbus, Alcoholics Anonymous, and part of the Neocatechumenal Way Community, which he considered as family.
Tom is preceded in death by his father, Frank, and mother, Mary. He is survived by his sister Roberta Devlin-Scherer, his brother, Jim Taylor, and Cousins John, Kerry, and Rosemary Devlin.
A viewing will be held at 7PM, Tuesday, November 17 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church at 805 Wayne Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland. The funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, November 18, at 9AM, also at St. Michael’s with Monsignor Eddie Tolentino leading the service. The burial will follow at 2PM at St. Andrews Catholic Church Cemetery at 135 S Sycamore Street, Newtown, Bucks County, PA 18940.
